Yumiko Yamazaki Biography

Yumiko Yamazaki received her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1986 from Osaka University of Art, Osaka, Japan. She also received her master of art degree in 1988 from Tama University of Fine Arts.In 1989 she was awarded the Holbein Scholarship in Japan. She studied art in Vienna, Austria, in 1994-95.
In 1999 she received a residency grant to the Mino Paper Art Village Project in Mino City, Japan, where she was an artist in residence with six other international
artists and began using handmade Japanese paper in her artwork. She continued studying the art of papermaking at the Mino Paper School in 2000 and produced a public art project with handmade paper and plants linking Mino and Shihoro, two historic cities in Japan. Yumiko had solo exhibitions at Gallery Fuji, Osaka, in 2002; at Atelier Moria in StariGrad, Croatia in 2002; and at Furukawa-ke Gallery in Mino City, Japan in 2000. In 1987 she had a solo exhibition at Gallery Haku in Osaka. Her work has been shown in numerous group exhibitions including the Museum of Modern Art in Rijeka Croatia and the Mino Paper Museum in Mino City, Japan
Since 1999 she has focused on producing public art installations involving the remembrance of a specific place and time and making use of Japanese handmade paper.In 2003 she created her new project
